The thirteenth amendment was passed in 1864. The amendment states that there should be no more slavery in the United States. The only exception to this was if someone deserved a punishment for bad behavior. This amendment was originally added because of the high amount of disagreements between the North, who were opposed to slavery, and the South, who loved the idea of it. This new amendment caused the US to change forever. After it was passed, the North and South no longer had near as many fights as before over the topic on slavery.
